If you are accepting the speaker honorarium or air travel reimbursement, we will pay the bank account of the individual or company listed on the W8 or W9 that you submit.
Our payables team will collect the banking details via a DocuSign form that will be e-mailed to you upon completion of the event.
Payments are made to US Companies/Individuals via direct deposit. Payments are made to non-US companies/individuals via international wire transfer.
W-8 or W-9 – Due March 10. Required for honorarium payment and travel reimbursement
The name and address listed on your W8/W9 is very important when it comes to your payment.
The name on the W8/W9 must match the name on the bank account where you want your funds deposited.
Also, the country listed on your W8/W9 must match the country of the bank where the funds are being deposited.
Examples:
If you want your payment made to your company, submit their W8/W9.
If you want your payment made to you personally, submit your W8/W9.
Your company logo (if applicable) is allowed on two slides only, usually the bio slide and thank you slide (2nd and last slides). It is not allowed on the 1st slide (title slide).
Presentation Materials - Due Friday March 24
Please provide the materials that you want us to make accessible to attendees for download after your session. This may not be the exact version that you display on stage and may contain supplemental information as well.
Materials generally include a PDF of your slide presentation, white paper (if applicable) and tool (if applicable).
Please submit all files in PDF format, with the exception of Tools which should be provided via GitHub link.
How to Name Your Files:
Please name your files properly or they will be rejected by the system. DO NOT INCLUDE ANY SPACES OR UNDERSCORES IN YOUR FILE NAME, USE A DASH "-" INSTEAD.
Name your slide presentation as follows: Asia-25-MainSpeakerLastName-SessionTitle.pdf
Example: Asia-25-Fitzl-Apple-Disk-O-Party.pdf
Name your white paper as follows: Asia-25-MainSpeakerLastName-SessionTitle-wp.pdf
Example: Asia-25-Fitzl-Apple-Disk-O-Party-wp.pdf
If your title is long, feel free to just use the first 5 words in the title.
Having multiple speakers on a presentation team makes it harder to engage with the audience. One speaker is ideal, but two speakers can work well (as long as the speakers are well-rehearsed and in sync).
Black Hat Asia Sound Bytes
All Speakers are strongly encouraged to end their session with a final presentation slide titled, "Black Hat Asia Sound Bytes."
Black Hat Asia Sound Bytes detail three key takeaways from your presentation that you want audience members to remember and share with fellow attendees or via social media.
Video Presentation Samples
Watch these Black Hat presentations and use them as examples as ways to engage with your audience.
Polling and Virtual Q & A - NEW FOR 2025
Introduce Polling and Virtual Q & A via the mobile app during your session to further engage the audience.
Use polling to ask questions of the audience during your session. The app can also be used to take questions virtually which can be upvoted by other attendees, that way you can answer the most frequently asked questions during your Q & A period (in-person Q & A will still be available with aisle microphones).
More details coming soon.
How to Manage Q & A During Your Session
Please try to allow 5 minutes for Q & A at the end of your session (within your designated time slot).
When you are ready to take questions, say from the stage "I will now take questions from the audience, please step up to the microphone to ask a question" (or something similar).
Please remember that we must end the session on time and your Q & A cannot exceed beyond your designated time slot.
If you'd like to extend Q&A after your session or chat with participants who have more in-depth questions, invite them to meet you in the hallway or another area outside of the Briefing Room, to allow the team to get the next speaking team set up.
Audio/Visual Equipment & Room Setup
One speaker per speaking team must bring their own laptop and electronic presentation slides. Be sure to bring any necessary adapters/dongles, power cord (and power converter, if necessary), as well as a backup copy of the presentation on USB and printed speaker notes (if they rely on them), in case of a laptop failure.
Please prepare your presentation in 16:9 format.
Audio/Visual Equipment & Room Setup:
Stage
Podium on stage (your laptop will be placed at the podium)
Microphones: Wireless Lavaliere Microphone(s) (1 per speaker) and aisle microphones for Q & A from the audience
Projector(s) with SDI & HDMI Connections
Two Large Screens
Confidence monitor and countdown clock (on the floor in front of the stage)
Slide advancer with laser pointer
Wireless internet access is available throughout the Briefings rooms, but please do not depend on it to run your presentation, demos, videos, etc. Always embed videos into your slides and have a backup copy of any demos.
An AV Tech will be in the room to assist with your setup (laptop connection, microphone placement, testing) and will remain in the room throughout the presentation to troubleshoot any issues.
While there are no requirements, we recommend the following:
Business casual attire is commonly worn by speakers.
Clothing with your company logo is acceptable.
Please avoid attire with profanity/inappropriate images.
To prevent glare under stage lighting, avoid sequins or shiny metallic fabrics.
For easier lavalier microphone setup, consider:
Jacket/blazer or button-down shirt/collared top.
Belt/sturdy waistband to comfortably secure the transmitter pack.
Avoiding high necklines (e.g., turtlenecks, tight crew necks) that limit mic placement.
Choosing medium-weight fabrics over thin materials that may sag when the mic is attached.
Avoiding dresses without structure (no pockets, belts, or seams) as they complicate transmitter placement.
Skipping dangling jewelry and scarves, which can interfere with audio.
Speaker Coaching Program
Speakers will have the opportunity to work with coaches who were either past Black Hat speakers or are well-known speakers in our industry. As a collective group, they understand the excitement of being accepted and want to help contribute their time to grow and coach the speakers who will take the stage.
An introductory call explaining the benefits of the coaching program will be held on February 4th at 8:30pm (CST/UTC-6) and on February 5th at 10:00am (CST/UTC-6).
Speaker Rehearsal Room
Location: Peony Main Ballroom 4502
