The Importance of Preemptive Security in Today’s Threat Landscape

Historically, organizations have taken a reactive approach to cybersecurity, leaving them caught playing an endless game of catch-up. According to Armis’ recent cyberwarfare report, 58% of IT decision-makers admit that they currently only respond to threats as they occur, or after the damage has already been done. As such, 81% of IT leaders say moving to a proactive cybersecurity posture is a top goal for their organization in the year ahead.

Organizations are constantly chasing their tails against cybercriminals. Almost half (48%) of IT decision-makers acknowledge their organizations were previously hacked and have not managed to secure their ecosystem adequately, leaving them exposed to ongoing threats. Recent news headlines have shown the financial fallout and operational toll of cyberattacks, significantly impacting society as we know it. Ransomware payouts, for example, are skyrocketing, with businesses in the U.S. paying an average of $10.1 million per attack. This can divert crucial resources away from innovation and growth. Beyond the immediate costs, the long-term reputational damage can create lasting repercussions that affect an organization's bottom line for years to come.

On top of that, threat actors are supercharging their tactics with AI, making it even more difficult for organizations to keep up. 73% of IT leaders are concerned about nation-state actors using AI to develop more sophisticated and targeted cyberattacks at a scale and speed never before possible. From AI-powered social engineering to autonomous cyber weapons and the exploitation of AI vulnerabilities, this new era of AI-driven threats means that traditional defenses are no longer enough.

It’s critical that security teams shift their programs “left of boom” by proactively identifying and mitigating all cyber asset risks, remediating security findings and vulnerabilities, and protecting their entire attack surface – before there’s any impact to their environment. To effectively do this, organizations must leverage AI-powered solutions. The only way to combat AI-powered threats is with AI-powered defenses. When used for good on the defensive side, AI is a far more powerful tool for security teams than it is for threat actors. What’s more, the technology can provide continuous monitoring, adaptive risk assessments and automated response mechanisms in ways that traditional security tools simply cannot match.

Armis is here to help. We go beyond detection to provide real security before an attack, not just after. Armis Centrix™, Armis’ Cyber Exposure Management Platform, addresses the entire lifecycle of managing cyber threats – from asset intelligence and management to early warning detection and vulnerability discovery, prioritization and remediation. The AI-powered platform enables security teams to see all risks and automatically prioritize them based on vulnerability criticality and business risk so that they can preemptively fill gaps before vulnerabilities are exposed, attacks are launched and organizations are impacted.
