Format

Black Hat Asia will be a Live, In-Person Event in Singapore, May 9-12, followed one week later by a Virtual Experience including recordings of all Briefings, available May 19.

Coordinated Disclosure

  • Black Hat strongly supports and encourages coordinated disclosure. To this end, Black Hat has a strong partnership with the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) to provide pro-bono legal consultations to security researchers on the legality of any research or data they plan to present at the event.

Presentation Preparation - Video Samples

  • Watch these Black Hat presentations and use them as examples as ways to engage with your audience.
  • Speakers that receive positive feedback on their evaluations engage with the audience with lots of eye contact and conduct their presentation in a casual conversational style of delivery.
  • To earn high marks, you should avoid staring at the screen and or reading your notes/slides.

Black Hat Sound Bytes

  • All Speakers are required to end their session with a final presentation slide titled, "Black Hat Sound Bytes." Black Hat Sound Bytes detail three key takeaways from your presentation that you want audience members to remember and share with fellow attendees or via social media.

Presentation Template

  • The template is provided as a resource and is not required to be used; however, most speakers do opt to use it.
  • Please note: An employer logo is only allowed on two presentation slides: The introduction slide and biography page (or the first and last slide).

Presentation Materials

  • All presentation materials are due to Black Hat by May 1st.
  • Your presentation materials (generally a PDF of your slide deck, white paper-if applicable and tool-if applicable) will be posted on the Black Hat website within 24 hours AFTER your session ends.
  • All files should be in PDF format (excluding tools - provide your GitHub link for those).
  • VERY IMPORTANT -- Please name your files properly or they will be rejected by the system.
    • DO NOT INCLUDE ANY SPACES IN YOUR FILE NAME, USE A DASH "-" INSTEAD.
    • Name Slides as follows: AS-23-MainSpeakerLastName-SessionTitle.pdf
    • Name White Papers as follows: AS-23-MainSpeakerLastName-SessionTitle-wp.pdf
    • Feel free to use the first 3-5 words, if it is a long title.

Briefings Schedule


Speaker Benefits

  • Speakers will receive the following:
    • Employer logo on two presentation slides: Introduction and Biography (or 1st and last slide)
    • Speaking Honorarium:
      • $1,000* USD for one Speaker per team
    • Conference Registration:
      • One Briefings pass per Speaker.
    • Two Student Scholarships per session/speaking team.
    • Travel Reimbursement (if presenting in-person in Singapore):
      • Economy-class, round-trip airfare for one Speaker per team
      • Cap of $1,300 USD. (Receipt must be provided.)
    • Accommodations (in-person speakers only):
      • Black Hat will book one hotel room for three nights for one Speaker
        • Checking in on May 10 and checking out on May 12 (3 nights)
        • The hotel name/location will be provided at a later date.
        • Please note that Marina Bay Sands is undergoing a renovation, so rooms will be limited, and speakers may receive a room at a different, nearby property.

Speaker Registration

  • You do NOT need to register for Black Hat. As a speaker, you will receive a speaker badge, which is the equivalent of the Briefings Pass and includes complimentary access to the Briefings, Keynotes, Business Hall, Arsenal, etc. (Trainings are excluded.)
  • In addition, the team will set up your speaker account in the online event platform (Swapcard). Please add the following address to your safe sender or contacts list to ensure you receive your credentials: noreply@swapcard.com.

Student Scholarship Nominations

  • Black Hat will also provide each speaking team the opportunity to nominate two full-time students to receive a complimentary Briefings pass (either in-person or virtual, at the students’ discretion). Our goal is to help our speakers introduce Black Hat to the next generation of security professionals.
  • Criteria:
    • Student must be at least 18 years old at the time of the event
    • Must provide proof of full-time academic status at an accredited college or university
    • Must provide copy of valid and current college or university ID card
  • Scholarship includes complimentary Briefings Pass Only. Students will be responsible for any other expenses if participating in-person (travel, meals, lodging, etc.).
  • If you know a student(s) who meet(s) our criteria listed above, ask them to complete and submit this form (and required supporting documents) by April 28.
  • Please Note: This is separate from the Black Hat Asia Student Scholarship Program where applicants must submit an application to be considered for a scholarship. As long as the 2 students being nominated are able to provide proof of full-time academic status at an accredited college or university (9 hours graduate or 12 hours undergraduate) and Valid University ID, the two scholarships are guaranteed.

Session Evaluations

  • Attendee feedback is very valuable and important to the Black Hat event.
  • Evaluations will be accessible to attendees via the Swapcard Virtual Platform, located under the "My Evaluations" Tab.
  • Please remind and encourage attendees to complete the evaluations for both virtual and in-person sessions.

Virtual Event Details

Virtual Event platform - Swapcard

  • We will utilize Swapcard as our on-demand platform for Briefings recordings.
  • You will receive your instructions and credentials to log into Swapcard at a later date.
  • In-Person and Virtual Passholders will be able to access Briefings content in Swapcard starting on May 19 and ending 30 days later.

Air Travel

  • We will provide the following to one speaker per session:
    • Economy-class, round-trip airfare for one Speaker per team (Cap of $1,300 USD– receipt must be provided)
    • Please book your ticket and e-mail your receipt to jennifer.hughes@informa.com by April 11
  • Tips:
    • Most speakers choose to arrive on Wednesday, May 10 (VIP Party is tentatively scheduled for 7pm local time) and return home on Saturday morning, May 13.
    • Sessions will be scheduled on May 11 and May 12 between the hours of 10 AM and 5 PM (Singapore time). If you are unable to stay the entire time, notify me by March 1 and I’ll try to adjust the schedule for you.

Letter of Invitation:

If you need a Letter of Invitation to complete your visa application, please email jennifer.hughes@informa.com and provide the following:

Badge Pick-up

  • All Speakers will be pre-registered and will need to pick up their badge.
  • Location and Dates: Coming Soon.

Speaker Rehearsal Room

  • There will be a Speaker Rehearsal Room available for use by Speakers to run through their presentation before their session.
  • A lectern, projector, screen and microphone will be provided in the room.
  • This room is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Please be courteous and limit use to 30 minutes if someone is waiting.

Lunch and Breaks

  • Lunch and breaks will be served.
  • Be sure to wear your speaker badge to access the lunch areas. Lunch is open to attendees with a Briefings pass and speakers only.

Timekeeping and Q&A

  • You are responsible for keeping track of your own remaining session time. Please keep an eye on the confidence monitor which will have a countdown clock.
  • Please allow several minutes during or at the end of your session (within the 30 or 40 minute timeframe) for questions from the audience.
  • As a professional courtesy to the speaker following you, please adhere to the time slot you have been given.

Audio/Visual Equipment

  • Speaking Teams will run their presentation from their OWN laptop. All speaking teams must bring their own laptop, demo video (if applicable) and electronic presentation slides to their Briefings session. Show Management has very few spare laptops for presenters.
  • Please prepare your presentation in 16:9 format.
  • You will have access to a podium mic and wireless lavalier (lapel) mic for your presentation.
  • An AV Tech will be on hand to assist you.
  • ALWAYS BRING A BACKUP COPY OF YOUR SLIDES ON USB IN CASE YOUR LAPTOP FAILS.
