Overview

Tamper-evident Tags and Security Seals are used widely around the world in applications involving warranty coverage and repair, public utility metering, and cargo shipment integrity. These devices are an integral part of our nation's Customs and Border Control enforcement and they are used in the protection and transportation of hazardous chemicals and even nuclear materials. Yet, for all their prevalence, most of these tags and seals are horribly weak and vulnerable to compromise. This training course will discuss in-depth the ways in which many such products function, and students will perform hands-on attacks against the bulk of tamper-evident devices on the market today. Be prepared for two days of deep knowledge and rolled-up sleeves… as all student stations come equipped with heat guns, solvent chemicals, and a wide range of tools and trickery.

Student Requirements

Students need only have an understanding of how and why security tags and tamper-evident seals are an essential part of many physical security models. This course will be appropriate for people with a wide range of skill levels: from policy makers to field agents with physical intrusion or inspection duties.

Only yourself. All equipment, including heat guns, chemical solvents, and sample seals and tags will be provided

What You Get

We will provide a wide sampling of security tags, seals, and tamper-evident materials. Our course will also include extensive photographic documentation as well as charts and suggested temperature/chemical attack vectors for a wide range of mediums. We will make heat guns and hypodermic needles with specialized chemicals available to all students. Some of these items are for the students to keep, and some equipment is retained by The CORE Group at the end of the class.

Trainers

Datagram has taught about locks, safes, and methods to compromise them for many years, including training to private companies and government agencies. He has spoken many times on physical and digital security at various conferences and is a part-time forensic locksmith.
